Cool, I am in the middle of writing a novel, it is so far about 400+ pages. (At one point more until I shrunk the size of the text to 11 from 12) If you want suggestions, why not he gets like in trouble on the way and is getting chased or something. Razz

You may already have this, but there should definitely be a specific reason for this murderer wanting to hunt down the main character (and previously his sister). Maybe the boy possesses knowledge or powers that the murderer doesn't want revealed/used?

Or maybe the murderer was just someone who killed her for his own reasons and then again, who said it was a murderer? Razz

What Void said is true, definitely include struggles and a couple failures for the main character or else the story won't seem realistic.

Awesome, what you should do is, like the spiderman movies where sandman didnt actually kill uncle Ben, have it so like the killer didnt actually kill his sis, and wants to help him. Make it seem like the killer is hunting him, and bad things happen, but the bad things are actually the killer trying to keep the boy safe from the real killer. see what im saying?

Re: My new book is in progress :D

Post by Generalcon2 on Sun Mar 28, 2010 10:25 am

This is a portion of writing from my new book; it's a survival book. Enjoy! Very Happy

March 21, 2010—Prologue
Reluctantly, I boarded the flight to Sao Paulo. I hated flying, it was my one weakness. My companion, Professor White, instructor of English at Cambridge University, was joining me on my trip to the Amazon Rainforest. I, Professor Johnson, instructor of Organic Chemistry at Oxford University, had been requested to make a trip to the Amazon Rainforest in search of new plants with unknown medical qualities. I invited my companion Tim (Professor White) to come because he was the world authority on botany, and he would love this trip. I clutched the arm of my seat as the plane made a steady rise; I was terrified. I already rued my decision and tried to call my companion, Dr. Lemieux, but the stewardess stopped me and my attempt was to no avail. Dr. Lemieux was the hear all, see all father of Noetic science, the study of the human mind’s potential, and has proved his theory (which was now a scientific law) that the subconscious mind was a corporeal manifestation that can control matter in the physical world. It sounds ludicrous, but Noetics isn’t my field, I wouldn’t know. Any who, I’m getting side tracked. I closed my eyes and we hit some turbulence. I yelped, louder than I should have. I made an attempt to sleep but it was futile, my fear gripped me too tightly. I sat there, paralyzed with fear; I should have drove, which would have been safer. When we finally landed in Sao Paulo I let out a sigh of relief, I was, needless to say, a pitiful ball of terror.

March 25, 2010—Day 4

I woke up early in the morning, reluctantly, making my way to the area that our tour guide had died. The water was still tainted with blood, some fish rose to the surface after attempting to breath in the foul liquid. I sat there, mortified as I saw piranhas jumping up and down in unison down river. I sat there and pondered, how would we escape this large death trap of massive flora. Our best bet was to make our way to the research center. I searched my person for the map but couldn’t find it. Then, unfortunately, I realized that it must have dissolved in the river; Mikel was carrying it, along with our food and water. I stood erect in a flash and rushed for the tent. I kicked the tent as opposed to going in to wake up my younger companion Tim. I knew this was an awful idea when he screamed; I probably kicked him in the kidneys. He came out; you could see the fury on his face. Before he was about to scream, I stopped him, telling him of our distasteful situation. The blood rushed from his face, and he became a bilious shade of white.
We talked about this and I had an idea. I rushed into the tent, and grabbed the oil lantern, emptying its contents. I told Tim to get a fire started and I used the lantern as a vessel for the tainted Amazon water. I scooped up some water and hung it over the fire. It started boiling, and I knew the bacterium in the water was slowly diminishing. Then, suddenly, the lantern exploded in a frenzy of fire and I nearly fell backwards in shock. The fire then went out, and I realized I forgot to wash the oil out. Luckily, the lantern was unscathed. I went out to collect more wood, and I noticed it started to accumulate around our camp, which I thought was coincidence. I brought an arms load back to our camp and I conjured up another fire in a different position to avoid possible threat from the oil that may still be lurking around the spot of prior disaster. I sat there, waiting for the fire to boil and realized I was wasting time.
I made my way to Tim and asked how he thought we would get out of this situation. “What do we do next?” I said. A ghost of a smile crossed his lips. Tim was of short stature and slight build. His hair was black and moderately short; it never moved. His skin was rather pale and his eyes hazel; at first I thought they were brown. He was world renowned for his expertise on botany and was the official authority on it. (Ironically, he taught writing at Cambridge College as opposed to teaching his favored subject.) His official title was Professor White. “We’ll set up shelter then form a plan; I have no idea at the moment.” But I knew he was forming an idea as we spoke.
I avoided any instances that I might have to leave the camp; a worm of fear had grown in me. I had predicted the worst case scenario which is, needless to say, death. Whether it’s by starvation, dehydration or an assault from some carnivorous predator, I don’t know, but I do know, chances of this unpleasant future are likely. I constantly dwelled on what Tim had said. Make a shelter? I pondered for a moment then came to a decision. It was obvious we were moving to make a semi permanent shelter to house ourselves until we devised a proper plan, but I had figured out an ideal location to construct this shelter. Several hundred meters away from the river itself was a rising escarpment, curving upward one way. Below its highest point was a gap with a very dense cluster of trees surrounding it (with the exception of the side facing away from the river). I thought this might make a good shelter due to the fact we could dismantle our tent and make it a tarp, and then scatter the indigenous lipstick tree around our shelter, it repels bugs. It was large enough to fit six people abreast (width wise) and five people abreast (length wise). It was about one hundred feet tall, but obviously, we couldn’t hang our tent that high up, so we will hang the tent at around eight feet above ground level.
I questioned myself sometimes, whether I am making any sense or not. Tim’s monkey interrupted my train of thought, obviously hungry, and at the mental mention of that, I was a bit peckish. I went over to Tim in search of food, I felt like I was relying much too heavily on Tim, and he said he had collected a few guavas. I asked him where they were, and he said inside his tent. I gave him the evil eye; he put all the food in his tent, go figure. I took two (one for me, one for the monkey), and submerged them in the now cool water, which I had boiled prior to eliminate any bacteria that may be lurking. I took a bite into the delicious fruit. At first its skin was bitter, but then as the taste eddied around my mouth, I could make out the sweet, yet tangy taste of strawberries and kiwis, and the plainly sweet taste of mangos and apples. I had esurience for more, but I restrained myself. Conserve them I told myself.
It was getting dark, and God knows, when it night falls on this wretched forest, it truly becomes dark. I informed Tim and he scurried quickly to his quarters (his slipshod tent) and I ambled back to mine. As I lay down, the monkey seemed to leave my tent and it ran to Tim’s. I felt a surge of jealousy, and then I kicked myself mentally. It’s a monkey! Sleep quickly took hold of me.
